What are you comparative thoughts of Six Senses Zighy Bay versus Alila Jabal Akhdar ?
They seem to have their similarities.
Zighy Bay does seem to be significantly more expensive. Not only is the room rate >50% more expensive (comparing bottom of the barrel zighy bay to second top room category at alila the difference was slightly more than 50%), when at the booking page, lunches are USD159 per person and dinners are USD264 ? A bit of a rort ? Can't you just pay for what you order ala carte style ? Or must you pre-pay ? Is it cheaper when you pre pay (hard to believe ?) this would make the USD82 burger at one of the restaurants at cheval blanc randhelli seem like a bargain lol
In your opinion, was Zighy Bay worth the premium over Alila ?
Alila room rate seems to include dinner, but perhaps zighy bay food is of a higher quality ?
If I go to Oman, what I am thinking is land at DXB, go to Zighy Bay, stay a few nights, then make my way into Muscat. Do you know what's the best way to organise a private car for transport ? Would you recommend this journey ? Seems to be 7-8 hours through the desert, could be fun. Then stay a few nights in maybe Al-Bustan/Al-Husn then exit through MCT.
Any thoughts on this plan ?
Thanks
Hi there,
Comparing Alila vs Zighy Bay is difficult since they are totally different. Not so much the style (both of them feature traditional Omani architecture) but the setting (mountains vs beach). You can easily spend one week at Zighy Bay (when you like a beach holiday), while 3 nights at Alila seem sufficient to me. I believe Zighy Bay is more expensive, because:
- it's close to Dubai (which attracts far more tourists than Muscat)
- it's a beach resort
- there are several restaurants (as compared to one at Alila)
- the Six Senses brand is more known than Alila
