NEXUS renewal doesn't code as anything close to travel.

I don't see why it would post much different to a Chase Visa.
So the only chance is if Chase made an explicit exception for anything coming from USCUSTOMS TRUSTEDTRAVE to be coded as travel (despite the merchant category being MISC GOVERNMENT SERVICES).
I can tell you that Citi TYP Premier make no such exception.
But, in any case, that's only 100 points difference (between 1x and 3x on $50). So how much is it worth worrying about, when it's only due once every 5 years? That's only 20 "lost" points per year on average!
