I have a flight booked for tomorrow (Thursday), but a last minute meeting on Friday came up. After the change fee, my existing ticket would had no value, so I left my flight as is and just booked a new one-way on Friday.

I'm looking at my flight for tomorrow and it's completely sold out (Y0, F0). So, can I just show up at the airport tomorrow and get VDB compensation for getting bumped to a flight I'm not going to take anyway?
