My experience of US highways is limited although I can agree with the OP wholeheartedly!

While driving from Williamsburg, VA to Dulles I was slightly surprised we were allowing 4hrs for the journey. The traffic was horrendous, we ended up going up Route 1 and back onto I-95 about four times. I was crapping myself about missing the flight and in the end made it with about 30mins to spare
