Although doing this can result in paying higher fees. For an ex UK return to the States you pay around £70+ more if split onto two one-ways because there are higher carrier charges on ex USA bookings, therefore your one way return journey would be ex-us and charged more.

No idea if charges are different in the points of origin in the OP's case however.
