Are there any other CLT fliers who have made the move to DL? I would be curious about your experience.
I generally fly on the east coast with 2-3 trips to the west coast per year and a few to Texas. Limited overseas travel - did one this year but don't foresee one next year.
I generally hit 60 segments a year on AA with mostly directs. I am worried about giving up directs, but am tiring of the crappy hard product and limited upgrade chances on flights over 500 miles (those stickers run out fast).
Let me know your thoughts and thanks in advance
I too am AA Plat in CLT, and I've been thinking about switching too. I haven't had any complaints with AA in a couple of years now; however, Delta does have a better product.
For instance, if flying from CLT to the western US, you won't have any entertainment system. Also, I recently flew 2 trips from CLT to BOS in first class. Both were on a refurbished A319. Smaller first class cabin than Delta, and no entertainment system. True, it was only a flight of 2 hours; however, I thought when they refurbished the A319, they were going to install entertainment systems.
While Delta is adding larger commuter planes and more mainline, it doesn't appear that AA is ready to give up as many 50 seat aircraft. While I usually try to fly first class, when in economy, Delta has the most plans with 2 x 3 seating, and more are on the way with the CS-100 aircraft.
Another reason I like Delta, I fly internationally. If you have to change planes in Europe, their Amsterdam hub is one of the best airports in Europe. Also, Delta has the most aircraft with 2-3-2 and 2-4-2 seating for international travel. There is no way I will fly 3-3-3 or 3-4-3 in Economy, Economy Plus or MCE. Doesn't work for me!
Even with Delta's Comfort Plus, you get more than just a few extra inches. I like that! I'm also looking forward to their new Premium Economy on international flights. Wonder if they will include this service on their transcon flights?
Another added perk of Delta's is they guarantee your baggage to arrive within 20 minutes of arrival or you receive bonus points. While waiting for baggage, they have staff that come around with bottles of water and mints. I've never seen this with any other airline!
I keep hearing rumors that Delta will expand flight options in Charlotte once the new terminal opens and they have more gates. Again, this is a rumor . . . I do hope the add a SkyClub at CLT, and would love to see a nonstop to one of their European hubs - AMS or CDG, even if it is on a B752!
