Not nearly as much as on the way back. LAX-MEL is flown into the prevailing winds. MEL-LAX is scheduled at 14:00 hours, while LAX-MEL is scheduled at 15:15 hours.

If I get some time over the weekend I'll do the numbers and see what it comes out like as far as payload restrictions are concerned.
