Usually you get an email confirmation that should state dates, rate, room category/type, and cancellation policies after making a reservation.
Were you given a key card envelope? Often that includes dates and rate.
Just how early did you check out? Right after seeing the room or did you use it's bathroom, towels, coffee maker, pool, etc. before leaving?
