It was all a bit nutty to be honest. I remember having of all people my BOSS jump on the boat and say "let's go!' to my crew and I as we headed over there. We were around the corner in the East River and had no clue how bad anything was.
I simply can't stress how the timing could not have been more perfect! Had they been delayed by 15-20 min out of LGA, Sully and I would've likely had a near head on collision as I would've been driving my ferry up the river to Yonkers. In addition to that, the river at the landing zone would also have had 6-8 ferries crossing back and forth in the landing zone. On top of all of THAT, shortly after the rescue (45-60 min iirc) we had a serious snow squall blow thru with 1/8 mi or worse visibility!
Perfect timing for an airport not known for its perfect timing!
(Just in case anyone thinks I'm nuts-have a look.)

Wow. Thanks for sharing. I am sure that was one of those surreal moments where you wonder what you see is really happening.
