Interesting. I recall it being processed the same way as my GE application, which was through GOES. It was so long ago, however, that I don't remember what it coded as on my card.

Global entry works in Nexus lanes into the US. Of course there are fewer places to interview for GE which may have been the bigger concern for the earlier poster.
I think you might have it backwards--NEXUS has less interview locations than GE.
