While it's hard to argue with some stretches of I-95, as well as the DC Beltway, I have to say that my personal driving bane of the moment is I-10 in Houston, particularly the stretch from downtown to Houston to Katy, a suburb to the west. Three lanes each direction and that's it! Original 1960s paving, fabulous! There is never a time that you can drive that stretch when it's not bumper-to-bumper and creeping along. Okay, I take that back -- a couple times I've done it at about 2 a.m. But every other time when it's daylight or primetime -- forget it.

Of course, now they're going to expand it to something like 24 lanes total, but that won't be done until 2012 or something. Just in time for it to be a wholly inadequate number of lanes for all the traffic. Again.
