Seems acceptable on TSA website since "Fresh Whole Fruits" are allowed, but I suspect they were thinking about smaller fruits like apples and peaches, etc.. Cantaloupes on the other hand are larger and contain more liquid.

I took a whole coconut in carry on. Bag alarmed on x-ray and was hand inspected. Screener said to not do it again but let me keep in. Don't know if a coconut would have more than 100 ml of liquid.
