Sometimes it takes a couple of days for AC/AE to get it back from other airline. I've found it easier to just call the other airline and give them name/flight number and get it from them. Can do seat assignment on same call.
This strategy also quickly identifies if the tx is a problem in any way.
FYI, I did this a few months ago with Luftansa and learned they now protect more desirable seats for their own FF and *G means nothing. If the seat you want was protected and not available to you but it is available at the airport, they will give it to you.
