How Your Travel Credit Works: A travel credit is applied as a statement credit to your account to offset travel Purchases from qualifying merchants in these travel-related categories: airlines, hotels, motels, timeshares, trailer parks, motor home and recreational vehicle rentals, campgrounds, car rental agencies, cruise lines, travel agencies, tour operators and real estate agents, operators of passenger trains, buses, taxis, limousines, ferries, boat rentals, tourist attractions and exhibits like art galleries, amusement parks, carnivals, circuses, aquariums, zoos and the like. Purchases from some merchants that provide travel-related goods and services will not be eligible for a travel credit, like tolls and bridge fees, parking lot and garages fees, in-flight goods and services, duty-free airport Purchases, rentals of trailers, trucks, and other vehicles for the purpose of hauling. Qualifying travel Purchases are eligible for a travel credit for 12 months from the posting date. Each point redeemed for a travel credit is worth $0.01 (2,500 points = $25)
again, it really depends how the merchant is coded
since it's just redemption, not a big thing... i'm sure you can find save up and redeem against some "actual" proper travel purchases (airline/orbitz/...) in the future, if your current purchase didn't code as travel
it's a bigger issue when purchasing (on CSR/CSP/Citi Premier/Prestige), where you get 3x on travel and 1x on others...
