I called AA and asked them to book me on an alternative BA flight (which has milesaver) availability, but the agent said I would have to pay the outrageous BA taxes and fees. I escalated this to a manager, but couldn't get her to budge either. I don't think they are making a fair effort at rebooking me.
You may be able to get AA to rebook onto other AA flights to VIE , but if you are wanting to make a voluntary change to fly on BA, then you need to be prepared to pay the carrier surcharges
Is there a better AA routing that you can find?

You made 2 separate bookings and if you want to cancel and redeposit the miles from a booking that has had nothing impacting it, then need to be prepared to pay the $150 fee

I would think it unlikely, since again, it is a separate unrelated booking that has had nothing happen to it
