We all know how long it takes to construct another runway and the area near the new airport is a real estate hot bed, making land accruing a long process.

During winters the Domestic Airport remains closed for 10-15 days and PAX travel to Delhi by themselves to get re-booked. for Intl Operations with connections further, this will be a nightmare.
Cat III is being installed in Amritsar. Beyond that chandigarh's runway project will be done next year.
