The Fog situation actually makes it worse for Chandigarh. Its currently on CAT II level. Govt. informed that a new runway will be constructed and the current runway will be left at CAT II due to IAF assets. Also only the new runway will be able to accommodate anything bigger than a A320 or B737.

We all know how long it takes to construct another runway and the area near the new airport is a real estate hot bed, making land accruing a long process.

During winters the Domestic Airport remains closed for 10-15 days and PAX travel to Delhi by themselves to get re-booked. for Intl Operations with connections further, this will be a nightmare.
