As a U.S. traveler, I get the best exchange rates at an ATM, using a bank card that doesn't charge me additional fees as long as I use an ATM in its network. At the end of the trip, I'll often cash out by applying leftover cash to my hotel bill, giving it as a tip to the cab driver, or applying it to purchases at the airport.
