It's called nengajo, and it's something you'd typically send to coworkers, old acquaintances, friends, etc. It's typically not something that a hotel patron would give to the hotel staff.

However, if you give something like that as a token of appreciation for their help and hospitality, then I'm sure they'd appreciate it.
