Yes, the plan is for Didi to continue to operate Uber as a separate brand. Assuming they pass antitrust review.
Taxis are easy, but Uber is easier. Easier navigation (I don't have to trust the driver knows how to get there), reduces chance of getting taken on a longer ride than necessary, can pay by credit card avoiding need for as much cash in country, can earn points and SPG.
