Currently staying here as I write this and I"ll offer a brief update on the property (sorry, no pictures this time).
First and foremost, the aforementioned "Pantry" no longer exists. I walked the entire tenth floor and did not see it, and it was not mentioned at check-in.
Some of the rooms here are certainly starting to show their age. I was originally upgraded to a Junior Suite on the eleventh floor (1127). The couch in the room had definitely seen better days as there were large rips in all of the cushions.
The layout of the Junior Suite was niceish with the door opening directly across from the bathroom with a sitting area to the right and the bedroom to the left (no separation doors). I say niceish because this layout left the bed in very close proximity to the entry door, which given the large gap underneath the door and the proximity to the elevator, leaves the bedroom very prone to hallway noise. Additionally, noise from the adjacent room can be distinctly, but not loudly heard in the bedroom.
The biggest problem with that room, and the reason for my having to be moved, is that the A/C system is completely inadequate. In fairness, I have found this to be an issue at SEVERAL properties in the DC Metro area across several brands, not just Hilton/Doubletree. The living room portion has a controllable A/C unit activated by a wall thermostat, however the unit is severely underpowered for the size of the room (the maintenance guy even agreed) and incapable of cooling the living room portion down to an appropriate temperature, much less the entire junior suite. The bedroom has no thermostat and relies on whatever temperature the central air conditioning duct blows out. I am now in a One Bedroom Kitchen Suite which does have a dividing door for the bedroom, and has the opposite layout of the A/C units (thermostat in bedroom, central air in kitchen/living room).
Beyond the A/C concern, housekeeping seems to be subpar here as well. In both rooms there has been food and trash underneath the sofabed, dirty/stained sheets on the sofabed, and in my current room, even toenail clippings (a LOT of them) in a footstool basket
Those issues aside, the staff here really does try hard and is very friendly and cordial. They attempt to respond to issues quickly, though some are not easily fixed.
There is a City owned parking deck behind the hotel that follows the same meter rules as the street parking (i.e. free after 10PM, on Sundays, and on holidays) for those who want to avoid the hotel parking charge but don't feel comfortable parking directly on the street.
Location is great as there is a Metro stop is a few blocks away and the hotel is surrounded by all that Downtown Bethesda has to offer (restaurants, bars, etc).
