There are 2 services right by arrivals, costing about the same, Flybus being the more regular, Greyhound Blue being marginally cheaper, and going to the same bus station, known as BSI. But Flybus also does the free minibus to hotels. There are a few hotels within 10 minutes walking distance of BSI.
Just a couple of clarifications on the bolded parts above. (1) The Airport Express service (now operating under the Grayline brand) goes to a completely different terminal in Laugardalur, a few km from central Rkv. (2) The Flybus transfer to hotels is
not free. A 2200 ISK ticket will get you as far as the BSÍ terminal, but to get the hotel transfer you need a Flybus Plus ticket at 2800 ISK.

All a matter of perspective! Personally, I find the HEX or Tube journey from LHR to central London incredibly boring...while the drive along the lava fields from KEF is much more interesting.
