Just a couple of clarifications on the bolded parts above. (1) The Airport Express service (now operating under the Grayline brand) goes to a completely different terminal in Laugardalur, a few km from central Rkv. (2) The Flybus transfer to hotels is not free. A 2200 ISK ticket will get you as far as the BSÍ terminal, but to get the hotel transfer you need a Flybus Plus ticket at 2800 ISK.

All a matter of perspective! Personally, I find the HEX or Tube journey from LHR to central London incredibly boring...while the drive along the lava fields from KEF is much more interesting.
