There are 2 services right by arrivals, costing about the same, Flybus being the more regular, Greyhound Blue being marginally cheaper, and going to the same bus station, known as BSI. But Flybus also does the free minibus to hotels. There are a few hotels within 10 minutes walking distance of BSI.
The public bus 55 leaves from an almost unmarked bus stop near the car park entrances, takes some finding, also goes to central Reykjavík via a slightly different route which is better for some hotels, takes about the same time, but costs 1700 ISK. The 50 km roadtrip from the airport is surprisingly boring!
