If you forget to take your luggage in ZRH it will be circling for a while, then it will be taken to the baggage office. If you then later remember that you actually had luggage you need to go to the baggage office (it is close to the luggage belts), explain your mishap and get the luggage. Not sure how you get to the office (you need to go backwards thru customs), but there must be a way.
OP is going to be arriving back in ZRH by air in the evening, and therefore will be airside again, hence can access the baggage office easily.
However I really can't imagine the baggage office being particularly happy with this plan. Collecting luggage and storing it at the lockers in GVA or ZRH and/or just checkin baggage on arrival in GVA seem like a much better plan (note: in ZRH at least, I've been able to check luggage approx 10 hours in advance - although that was in IRROPS). Rechecking in GVA might involve baggage fees depending on the ticket though.
