Most of the Birmingham and Vancouver lot of Punjabi's are looking at the cheapest option to get there which isn't the cream on that cake that the airlines need to be profitable.
I think you under estimate the wealth of punjabi families and the ability or want to spend on business class seats. Example: the KUL-DEL business class on the MH A330 is usually pretty full or 80% full with indian expats and businessmen.
I have been on when it was 100% full for the most part.
People will spend when they want to, can and find prices sensible. Not all indians or punjabis are earning peanuts. A lot are highly paid professionals and/or just happen to come from rich families.
