No, the issue was making them a target by showing they had foreign relatives and thus likely foreign money. It's less of an issue now but we still have relatives that are worried about my presence making them a theft target (or, in the case of a grand-niece, I'm not to be seen while she's being picked up from school for worry of kidnapping.)

I'm an IT guy--I don't dress fancy, I don't look like money other than obviously being a foreigner--but they still worry.
