you should be able to check in to your final destination, that is CDG, from the US, no matter if they are different airlines...
Usually when I fly AirFrance domestic and then switch airlines to go to the US to USair, or United, I can check my luguage all the way through!
If they don't let you do that, do you speak French? I ask that because the air France staff will be nicer to you if you speak in French, and if you talk with them they should let it pass, tell them that you are coming from an international flight and show them your previous ticket...
Worst case scenario would be that you would have to pay for your overweight luguage. The lighter one should be fine but the other one shouldn't cost you that much... since overweight by approx 10 kg (20 lbs)...
I have never been charged for overweight luguage with Air France... Other companies yes (Iberia for ie... ba*#@$@ i tried arguing with them for 1/2 hour).
Tell us what happen when you come back, but i don't think you'll have a problem.
