I never had to call American Express to tell them where I planned to travel with my Costco Amex card. I feel less secure knowing that the bank records has my travel dates and locations. I was also surprised by the lack of any email notices, but there was a rash of Citi messages on my home answering machine.
I can get the annoyance with overzealous fraud prevention measures (especially if you had a previous history of using your Costco Amex when traveling, and since they have access to your account history, they should be able to tell that you're a regular traveler and not flag your account when you do use it while traveling), but feeling less secure by putting a travel notification on your account? I'm lost at how that possibly compromises your security.
(Not defending Citi here--I much prefer Amex and their customer service.)
