I used 60000 miles to buy Milesaaver AA award roundtrip to Europe. I have 3 segments each way. I have almost a 6 hour layover at ORD on the way back from Europe and then a 2 hour layover at DFW on the way home to AUS.

My question is: If I ditch these last 2 segments of my trip, will they try to charge me a fee or penalty for not showing up? I was thinking of buying a cheap direct flight from ORD to AUS on another airline which would get me home 4 hours sooner.

Any advice/experiences appreciated.
Thanks.
Before doing this, I suggest you think what will happen if your EUR-ORD flight is delayed, and instead of a 6 hour layover at ORD, you have much less. AA is under no obligation to protect you on the CHEAP direct ticket. You do not mention if you hold status at AA, that you could use in your favor and try for
SDFC for an earlier flight. You also do not mention if you have Global Entry, which will speed up your entry to US at ORD. You can certainly drop the last 2 segments, but should consider the "what if" in case of delay or cancelation.

On separate note, has there been a substantial schedule change on your ticket? You could use this to your advantage in getting AA to provide you an earlier flight.
