Status is only good through Jan 31, 2017. I doubt too many people will play games for status that only lasts that long.

I doubt this will inflate the Medallion ranks all that much given the no current Skymiles account and two trip requirement (which eliminates the one-to-two trips a year infrequent flyers). Interesting that it seems to have started back at the end of June and is only now being publicized.
