I just don't get the sense of entitlement. At all.

Yes, it would be a nice gesture to waive fees, but the indignation when rules are followed is ridiculous. I don't understand the mentality that he is being "screwed over" - THAT WAS THE TICKET HE BOUGHT.

Life happens. That's why he bought insurance. So use it.

Last year I had unavoidable work travel when my mum was dying. I still bought the cheapest fares knowing full well I might have to throw them entirely out the window, because *for me* that made more sense. When it came time to fly home that one last time, I paid the change fee without flinching or complaining or creating a social media fuss because it meant I got to be with her for several more hours. I was simply grateful that there was the option to fly earlier. Granted I was flying on the opposite end of the situation and that changes perspective.
