This is a dilemma I just faced today but for slightly different reasons. I am flying to Hartford Connecticut at the end of April. I could do this with AC quite easily but I would get half points for most of the trip and no chance of upgrade from cheaper fares.

I chose the comfort of UA econo+, full points in Aeroplan and multiple options for earning more miles by going a bit further via DEN etc.
