I have both and decided that I will only take my 22" when I check luggage.

Why? I am sick and tired of not being to get my bag in the overhead without help, especially on AS flights and those md-80's on AA that are TWA configured -- love the legroom, hate the overheads.

I also seem to pack less and survive with the 20". I too use either zip locks or those vacuum bags to conserve space, but its mostly a weight issue.

My 22" is a travelpro and I hate it. It has been in for repair twice in two years. I have a cheapo 20" samsonite and it has been trouble free. I am considering the briggs and reilly non expandable, but haven't bought it yet.

The hartmann luggage is nice, if not spendy. My parents really like theirs...
