Most or all of those "confrontations" may be caused by a false-basis flagging of an individual. So whether or not it's chance, the outcome could be due to something that has a racist,, sexist and even ageist angle to it.

Keep in mind that CBP actively lobbied the the rest of our government to retain the right to discriminate (against even lawful individuals) on the basis of immutable/largely immutable characteristics (in that they can't be changed so easily at will by any and all individuals). They wanted to be able to continue to hassle people on the basis of ethnicity, sex, age, and so on.

Racism in innocent actions? Still that's racism. Welcome to the USG giving the CBP the legal cover it needs to continue to discriminate on bases that would be illegal if done by me as an employer.
