In one case the passport was expiring less than six months from the time of travel in the other case it had to do with the way the date was entered month first vs day first. Case one, was legal issue. Most countries require six months validity remaining to enter. Some won't let you on if you're even a day off. The purpose is to ensure you have a valid travel document when you go to leave.
The second case happens from time to time but should have nothing to do with the Secure Flight Data issue OP is having. DL system would reject outright a bad date or at least accept one that while reversed is still a valid date. Ie 01-04-82 is still going to be accepted as 04-01-82 even if that's wrong. 01-15-82 would outright not be accepted as 15-01-82 by DL'S systems.
