I checked the tour itinerary in more detail than I had read it before the first post. Our last night will be at the Jordan Valley Marriott near the Dead Sea, about 30km southwest of Amman. The tour operator offers transportation to the airport after breakfast, too late for the early morning flight to AQJ. How does this change things? I checked the bus site you recommended; they seem to have service to Amman from there and then onward to Aqaba, presumably on a different bus. I should probably also check with the tour operator to see what they recommend.
Well yeah,it does change things quite signifficantly.
1)You can get a taxi from Marriot Dead Sea to the airport. Should be in the region of 30-40JD considering the hotel "mark up".
2)This one depends on which day of the week is your travel. There are convinient flights on some days:
Monday RJ304 15:45
Tuesday RJ304 13:15
Thursday RJ302 17:30
FRI/SAT RJ304 16:30
These should get you in after breakfast, but still in time for being able to cross the border. The turn to the border is on the way from the airport to Aqaba,so you can avoid Aqaba proper alltogether. It's a 10 minutes drvie from the airport to Aqaba city center, the border is more or less in the middle,so should be around 5 minutes drive and not more then 10JD taxi fare.
Otherwise you can get a free shuttle to one of the hotels in Aqaba, chill in Aqaba for a few hours and then get a taxi to the border.
3) You did mention driving in the OP,so possibly you may consider driving to Aqaba. Dead Sea hotels are right on the Aqaba highway and it should take 2-2:30 to Aqaba.
