I think it is a big jump to assume that person was a non rev. After all, in the process of dealing with the GA to insure a proper seat, the GA may well have gotten to "know" that passenger and was just being friendly in that interaction.

Yea, I know GA training sometimes seems to result in not being friendly, but hey, it does happen.

So, the non rev assumption is based on very little information.
