Everyone here has the right to challenge/question/doubt procedures (on the ground). It is the way we get better/safer.

I can cite several examples of pilots following the 'regs' that not only did not add to safety, but, in fact caused the accident by following the regs. (But, unlike the FAA, I will not blame the pilots! They did what they were supposed to do!!!) But we follow the rules and question them on the ground.

Fair point about who posted the page. Post corrected.

Tobias-UK made several implications about my safety as a pilot. I do not believe they fall into the category of a 'fair comment'. In fact, it is baseless and uninformed. But, Tobias-UK is free to post anything he wants.

This is the perfect example of fiction becoming fact. No reference to the specific event. No relevant the governing authority or report. Just a story that starts with my brothers/cousins/friends mother once saw a story about someones sisters/friends/auntie...

Cell Phones Interfere with Plane Instruments... Myth busted! (From the website... When you make a call at 10,000 feet, the signal bounces off multiple available cell towers, rather than one at a time. That means too many phone-happy jetsetters might clog up the networks on the ground, which is why the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) — not the Federal Aviation Association (FAA) — banned cell use on planes.) - MythBusters

But you believe what you want!

And to quote every airline, "you are now free to use your cellphone."

Be nice! I have well over 2 million miles and counting. (I am also a private pilot who does a safety briefing before every flight with passengers. Shocking, I know!)

...........
In the LAS thread 110pgl you said you were in fact a private pilot.

You also used wired magazine and the TV series Mythbusters as proof that personal phones and laptops do not interfere with airplanes full stop. Sorry but with a posting history suggesting large amounts of flying in premium cabins, mileage runs, price deals and a further reference in the LAS thread that you work for a firm that blows up marketing reaseach data, I personally don't think I can take anything you say as being from the point of view as someone who has an inherent interest in aviation from a professional point of view. I do not doubt that you are a private pilot and/or aviation enthusiast. I am a mere enthusiast and enjoyed flying as a passenger until I found it a chore, which I now do. I do wish I was a pilot, and merely take an interest in the subject. But I believe real experts should be conducting research.
I am glad the FAA and CAA do not use wired magazine or mythbusters as research from which to draw up recommendations and rules.

Anyway all the best with your private flying. You might need some luck if you think your are that great/safe with your clean record. Wouldn't want it jinxing now would we?

Totally off topic but I think the recording of the Emirates evacuation has shown categorically that taking bags slowed down the evacuation.
