VDB offer, then not needed... horrible seats left
On a flight IAD-CPH, I had the bulkhead reserved, I think row 31, window + Isle. I first went to the desk and told them I would like to volunteer if they need any denied boarding, gave them my tickets and told them I would be in the lounge.
If you haven't been on SAS via IAD, they have a separate boarding from the lounge. I was told they probably would not need me, so the gate agent would bring my tickets to the lounge at boarding if I am not needed. This was fine, I went to the lounge and sucked down some beers and made a meal out of the snacks. When the GA arrived, they did not have my BP and radioed to the main gate about it when I asked. She was told they likely needed my seats and they needed me at the gate. When I arrived at the gate I was told they needed my seats and had me wait while they got everyone on board then they would get me on another flight. After waiting until 30 minutes after take off was supposed to be, they came to me and said good news, we do not need your seats after all. I was thinking, damn, we get our old seats and missed out on all the operational upgrades I heard them giving away. Then, it was even worse, they had already given away our seats and only hd two seats not next to each other in the middle of two center sections very near the back of the bus.
This seems like a bad way to treat someone whom is doing them a favor by offering up their seats. For all that hassle, I would have expected the VDB credit anyhow for not having my booked seats. Would I get anything out of a complaint if I made one, and who would you tell about this?
