Can I use a Visa card to buy a one-day travel pass for travel in the tube, starting from LHR?

The reason I am asking is because I am arriving in LHR and plan to get a one day travel card to and take the tube to central London. I don't have any GBP currency with me and plan to change only in central London (the airport rates aren't too good I heard). That's why I hope to buy one with my credit card.

Can anyone advise if this plan works? Thanks!
