You seem to be confusing two different issues. The poster is not claiming he both accepts points and asks that the room be marked as having been cleaned. There are properties that do not participate in the 500 points for no housekeeping initiative - including the property I'm in now - where allowing the housekeeper to mark the room as cleaned is not double-dipping. It solves the issues of the housekeeper continuously bothering you and getting paid while meeting the customer's needs. Where is the problem in that?

IME, if you are accepting the 500 points - either by putting out the specific sign for that program the night before or letting the front desk know at check-in - there is no problem with a housekeeper trying to clean the room. The problem is when a hotel does not have that policy and the DND sign is on the door.
