Warning on "Pre-Approved" - how to make sure you indeed are so
Make sure to look at the screen of your profile when the banker told you you were pre-approved. There are enough DPs (personal and read on sites) that either the banker is sleazy or incompetent - told customers they were pre-approved, but in reality it was just "you are invite to apply". The former is almost a sure approval regardless 5/24, low FICO, low income range... do not matter. The latter is no different than you apply online without wasting your time at the branch.
If the banker does not show you the screen while filling out your app - it is almost certain that either he is a scammer or he is incompetent.
The tell-tale then is in the Disclosure page on the APR and Fee etc. If you are preapproved, the APR would be a FIXED NUMBER, not a RANGE. If it is a RANGE, it definitely is NOT a pre-approved. When you come to think about it, it makes sense - if you are pre-approved, you are already being evaluated and the APR is determined, versus the "you are invite to apply" is just that you submit the app, then the evaluation process starts.
Until you sign the application, there would be NO hard pull. So be careful on the "preapproved" status because enough DPs have shown that some bankers would pull a fast one, in the hope that you could get approved and then they get the commission. Or, they are incompetent to distinguish the 2. One DP I read, showed that after the customer submitted the app and was declined, he questioned the banker. She then said, "you are invited to apply." So this guy was duped into believe he was pre-approved while he was NOT!
If you are not pre-approved, and you are doomed due to 5/24 - the only way to get pass it is thru CPC which you can sign up without assets at Chase first. Only apply after you become CPC customer. If you are declined, either the banker or you yourself, can do the recon call. Use the lending dept's number to do the recon call if you decide to do it yourself, esp if your banker isn't very helpful. This number is the direct number to the lending dept, and is in the Wiki of the Apply Chase Card STICKY.

It works for folks who have long history with Chase and can explain why there were more than 5 new accounts in past 24 months, and have enough CL to shuffle (i.e. no new credit needed - as if new credit is needed, the app would be moved up to another level for further review, versus the initial lending dept rep could approve you.)
Hope the above help for those still are trying.
