Many hotels, particularly the mid-budget business hotels, are surrounded by parking lots and, therefore, light poles. Those suckers are BRIGHT.

My wife likes the background noise of the TV. I'd prefer a cave. I love our basement "bedroom". It's technically not a bedroom b/c there is no window, but the positive side of it is that you can shut the door and it is literally pitch black. I love being cocooned in the darkness.
