After reading your response, I checked with Air India DEL Baggage, gave my booking reference to AI, and they confirmed that I can bring the "big box" with a bicycle in it. Issue resolved - maybe (dependent on who is at check-in when I show up). No names were given

I suppose I will need to confirm this information with the check-in supervisors at AI DEL check-in when I first land.
