Reality is 10-across is pretty much industry norm. We followed others, and others are following us. This is my predominant route and the product is quite decent. Refurbished J is very nice, Premium Y will be extended to the A330's and Y is as stated industry standard. Customers always enjoy the mid-flight ice cream service in Y. Catering is generally very good out of FCO, and should you have lounge access, AZ's Sala Giotto (AC's contacted lounge) has been refurbished to a higher standard. AZ is very decent as well, and appears to have been elevated under Etihad's administration. Rome is operated by AC Mainline and aircraft varies and is closely matched to seasonal demand. This past year, FCO had the 787-9, A330 & 777-300 operating the YYZ-FCO route.

As The LEV pointed out price and scheduling should be your primary consideration if flying Y. IIRC, AZ has a very late departure ex YYZ.
