Well AC shows that YYZ-FCO is mainline. I generally would believe the actual airline in this case. I have flown this route many times, as recently as June and it has always been mainline.

To the OP. When are you planning on travelling and in what cabin?
I hadn't looked it up but a google search took me to an ACrouge page. Easy enough for OP to do a sample booking. Based on the other clues OP posted (777 in summer, a330 in winter), it seems likely this is a seasonal route... meaning on the off peak months the Grinch schedules a Rouge plane.

AC mainline 777's are great in J business class. But they added tons more seats, making economy 10-across one of the highest density products in the world).
