10 hour layover in Reykjavik with cats

Hi everyone,

I'm traveling from the U.S. to Barcelona on Icelandair, with a 10 hour layover in Reykjavik. I'm bringing two cats (regular pets).

Yesterday, I spoke with an Icelandair customer service rep who told me that any pet is only allowed a 3 hour layover (maximum). This directly contradicts what a different Icelandair rep told me when I booked the tickets.

According to the Icelandair website, the 3 hour layover (maximum) rule applies to service dogs. There is no mention of a maximum layover time for regular pets.

I've called Icelandair 6 times now, and I've gotten no concrete answer about the maximum layover time for regular pets.

So, I'm wondering if anyone has personal experience of transiting through Reykjavik under the following conditions:

  • traveling with regular pets (non-service animals)
  • layover of 4+ hours

Thanks so much for your help!
