this is how room categories (more importantly hotel computer systems?) work. there are always best and worst in category, even if the difference between them is small, rather than large. note many complaints here regarding this, whether small (as KatW just mentioned) view, noise, etc.

but in terms of the possibility of having categories with 1 unit, i agree. this is how it works for certain 'categories' as well as the usual top couple named suites. but at the ritz, ALL of their specialty suites are sold individually. (as are ALL of the private residence villas at trisara.)

personally, there are dozens of luxury hotels where i would only (not 'prefer') do walk up booking because i want a guarantee which they do not offer.
