I have flown quite a few times with the SAS Plus fare. It is as what the OP experienced.
In general, it really has more value compared to the BA product.

The on-board service is not worst compared to BA - although yes, the FA's are slightly older, but most of them are friendly and never met an arrogant one (which you can occassionally get from BA).

The only downside (as I have read) is that with the Plus fares, they are now removing the possibility of free changes (as long as booking class available).

However indeed, it is a very good fare family and I do wish more airlines will do this.
