QF does make the choice quite easy. You take a look at the queue for the desks. If it's short, then that's the way to go as the check-in staff are sufficiently practised at this that the whole process only takes seconds. But if the queue is long, then it's a day for taking a deep breath and going over to do battle with the machines. And a battle it sometimes is.
